World Mental Health Day is marked every year on October 10. This year’s theme is Mental Health for All – Greater Investment, Greater Access.

While governments and organisations work towards improving access to quality mental health care, we, as individuals, can get started on our own journey towards better mental health.

Let’s see what mental health means to advocates out there!

This October, how about setting aside a minute, or more, to think about what mental health means to you?

And even better, share your thoughts with your friends and family! Remember, the more we talk about mental health matters, the more we promote awareness and acceptance.

3 Ways to Participate in World Mental Health Day 2020:

Option 1: For anyone who’d like to spread the message about mental wellbeing.

Select your preferred card and right click or press on the image to download it. (Note: if you coming in from my @thedivaeatsprata IG link, you won’t be able to just press on the image to download it, please open notaprettypicture.com/wmhd2020 using a separate browser)

Input your reflection on what mental health means to you and share on your social media feeds! Do encourage your friends to take part in this initiative. And don’t forget to tag @notaprettypicturesg and #LetsTalkAboutIt!

Option 2: For Parents with Kids, or simply if you’re forever young-at-heart!

If you’d like to start talking about mental health with your kids (and have a little fun while doing so), check out these kid-friendly cards:

Step 1: Select your preferred card, and right click or press on the image to download it. (Note: if you coming in from my @thedivaeatsprata IG link, you won’t be able to just press on the image to download it, please open notaprettypicture.com/wmhd2020 using a separate browser)

Step 2: Spend a little time reflecting on what mental health means with your child. It can be anything from “Mental Health Means eating lots of ice cream” to “Mental Health Means not being bullied by anyone” .

Anything goes, because the objective is to get kids comfortable with the words Mental Health, and that it is just as important to take care of as Physical Health. And of course, to start removing any associated stigma from a young age.

Step 3: Input your thoughts, sign off and if you’ve got a printed version, take a picture of the card, with or without yourselves in it. If you’re doing a digital version, then just get it ready to be shared!

Step 4: Share it on your social media feeds. Do remember to encourage your friends to take part! And don’t forget to tag @notaprettypicturesg and #LetsTalkAboutIt.

Step 5: Go get that ice cream, and give yourselves a pat on the back for doing your bit to reduce stigma and promote Mental Health awareness!

Option 3: For those who like to keep it simple.

Simply share a text-only post with this format: “Mental Health Means…”. No images, no extras, just a bold statement. And don’t forget to tag @notaprettypicturesg and #LetsTalkAboutIt, please!

Come on, join me in smashing stigmas surrounding mental health!
