This year's Birthday Musings is about figuring out that it is okay to celebrate your life, even when there is so much pain and suffering around us. Hope you enjoy the read 🙂
Feeling guilty about enjoying life when it’s all crappy around you? – Not A Pretty Picture
Feeling guilty about enjoying life when it’s all crappy around you? That’s the premise behind this year’s Birthday Musings post. I’m a little late this year, because I’ve been occupied; each month this year has seen me busy with something, and my mental health advocacy efforts have had to ...
It is common in our society to 1) Compare ourselves with others and end up feeling “not enough” 2) Be afraid to share our awesomeness for fear of appearing boastful. But today, on IWD, as we celebrate the many successful women around us, let’s not forget to celebrate ourselves.
So the question I have for you is, “What do you love most about yourself?”. No filtering, no discounting, just be loud and proud and share it with everyone! And carry this with you whenever you are not feeling great.
As for me, what I love most about myself is… my Resilience. Happy IWD!

We all have something to celebrate on International Women’s Day – Not A Pretty Picture
We all have something to celebrate on International Women’s Day Feeling lacklustre, or was it lost, I turned to one of my favourite self-care activities. Listening to a mind health podcast while vaguely sweating it out at the gym. I guess what prompted this was International Women’s Day (IWD). L...
On Jan 5th, I had a surgery for endometriosis and to remove my tubes. It is a major surgery and the 2nd time in 10 years I've had surgery for this very painful disease that not many are familiar with. I wasn't planning to write anything, but during my recovery period, as I was lounging around watching the Australian Open quarter-finals, I happened to see the winner, Danielle Collins' post-match interview where she mentioned her recent health issues. Curious, I googled and sure enough, the headline screamed: "Danielle Collins opens up about extremely painful endometriosis".
What timing, here I am recovering from surgery for this same thing. I was inspired then to share my story in this (warning: long and gory at times) article. Ladies (and men, why not?), if you know anyone who suffers from debilitating period and pelvic pains, heavy flows that impact their lives, infertility even, check my story out.
Oh, yes that's me at 6.30am on Jan 5th, before heading for the surgery 🙂
I am recovering well, and by the way, Danielle Collins will be battling Ash Barty at 4.30pm (SGT) today in the Finals. I'll be watching!

My Long Battle with Endometriosis – Not A Pretty Picture
My Long Battle with Endometriosis Hello! This is not an overtly mental health related post (though there are mental health implications for those who suffer from this disease), but seeing as how I have had two big surgeries to deal with endometriosis in the span of 10 years, I thought I’d share my...
2022 started with a surgery for me, and a good excuse to do nothing at all, at least for two weeks. And yet! Why do some of us find it so hard to just chill? Can you?
Doc gave you Licence to Chill. Can you? – Not A Pretty Picture
Doc gave you Licence to Chill. Can you? Right. We are well into the New Year and it’s been all about my recent operation so far. On Jan 5th, I had surgery for endometriosis and to remove my swollen fallopian tubes. Might not sound like the best way to start the year, but you could also say that I ...
NYE is always a time for me to reflect on the year past and the hopes ahead. No magic fairy descending upon us when the clock strikes 12 tonight, granting us all that we desire in 2022. But, a healthy mind and attitude can get us close! What are your mental health goals for 2022?

2021 – Ups, Downs and Everything in-between – Not A Pretty Picture
2021 – Ups, Downs and Everything in-between Setting aside part deux of Covid-19 that was 2021, it was a typical year, of ups, downs and everything-in-the-middle. There were times when the force was strong in me, and my energy levels were on par with the big dreams I had. And other times, when I ha...
CNA938 has put up the 2 episodes from the interview I did a couple of months back on the MeListen platform. Part 1 focuses on childhood trauma, and the impact of growing up with mental illness in the family, Part 2 is all about the benefits from therapy and how to manage one's mental well-being. Featured here is part 1, part 2 is also available on MeListen.

Self-care is not all about doing fun, escapist stuff. Quite the opposite, it's a bit of hard work, diving deep within yourself but the effort is So. Worth. It. Happy weekend ahead!

Self-care vs Stress Relief – What works for long-term Mental Well-being – Not A Pretty Picture
Self-care vs Stress Relief – What works for long-term Mental Well-being Chocolate cake? Long walks in the park? Chillin’ on the couch? Would those be self-care or stress relief? Hey, I’m not one to argue semantics. Really. To each their own. So I’ll just share my totally personal response. T...
At last night's IG Live session with im_friendly_co, I suggested we take some time today, on World Mental Health Day, to do this classic exercise of imagining when we are 70, what a meaningful life would have been. It's a great way of helping us discover our Values! So how about giving it a try today? You can watch the entire IG Live session on @im_friendly_co IGTV. Meanwhile have a peaceful, happy World Mental Health Day!
